Connecting Jews Through Laughter
Jewish Identity and Unity Through Laughter
The Jewish Humor Foundation (JHF) is a non-profit 501c3 charity organization based in Rochester, New York that brings Jewish laughter to people and communities. JHF believes that humor is a vital aspect of Jewish identity. Just as the name of our forefather Yitzchak means “to laugh,” we laugh. Whatever may be, we laugh. If you can laugh as a Jew, you can connect to your tradition and love it. If we can laugh as one, we can be together and live it.
WHAT WE DO
JHF supports opportunities for Jewish people to connect to Jewish tradition and practice through laughter, by developing Jewish humor materials and creating space for Jewish humor to live. As such, we also support live shows and comedic connection to those who need humor to come to them.
Showing respect to the richness ad legacy of Jewish humor and jokes, we look forward to the future redemption, through laughter.
JHF was inspired by and exists in honor of Rabbi Shaya Kilimnick, ZT”L. When Rabbi Kilimnick passed, the light of Jewish humor dimmed. We are going to make sure his light continues to radiate throughout the Jewish world.
JHF is in honor and memory of Rabbi Kilimnick. Through humor, Rabbi Kilimnick always made people feel good. He is about living as a Jew, and creating opportunities for Jewish life and laughter. He comforted them with a laugh, and brought Judaism to them with humor and a smile.
As his laughter continues to inspire us, we live by the motto he exemplified: If you can laugh, you can connect.
Rabbi Kilimnick supported his son, David, in his comedy shows and writings. He supported his community in their challenges and Simchas. He supported the nation with a smile and laughter. In honor of his father, and in honor of our community leader we dedicate the Jewish Humor Foundation.
OUR THREE PILLAR PROGRAMS TO HEAL COMMUNITY
SHIMON HATZADIK SAID (PIRKEI AVOTH) “THE WORLD STANDS ON THREE THINGS: on TORAH, on SERVICE, AND on ACTS OF KINDNESS”
·Torah (The Written and Oral Word): JHF will disseminate the Kibbitzer Comedy Magazine to all four corners of the earth. The blueprint of Jewish funny, we aim to educate and bring laughter to Jewish living.
·Avodah (Prayer and Coming Together as Community): JHF, based in Rochester (NY), is a place for communal gathering and laughing that will support Jewish comedy productions in Israel and the Golah (Diaspora), with a strong connection to Jerusalem. We will also support the Jewish Comedy Caravan, to connect with smaller Jewish communities through laughter. We will also aim to serve as the first and only global clearinghouse and archive for all things Jewish Humor.
·Gemilut Chasadim (Acts of Kindness): JHF will provide Jewish performances, publications and productions for Seniors, Disabled, Special Needs, and anyone who needs healing through laughter.
In addition to the Three Pillar Programs of JHF, written humor publications, education through Jewish humor, Ask The Honest Rabbi – Jewish advice show, the yearly Jewish Comedy Festival, and much more are programs the JHF plans to support, as we grow together.
David Kilimnick, Founder, has developed Jewish humor for two decades. From his comedy club in Israel to the countless writings, shows and productions, his father, Rabbi Kilimnick ZT”L, has supported him throughout.
